Shopping for electrical goods: Service in electrical goods stores seems to be improving, but you still can't rely on getting detailed, accurate advice
Article Abstract:
A team of shoppers visited the major electrical chains and independent electric retailers, to assess how knowledgeable and helpful staff were. The shoppers sought advice on televisions, VCRs, washing machines and vacuum cleaners. Most of the assistants gave reasonably full answers to the questions about Nicam on video cassette recorders. Just 12 out of 60 assistants were able to provide good answers about the advent of digital TV, and only four of 43 assistants provided full answers to questions about bagless vacuum cleaners. ScottishPower received the highest rating, with Dixons and House of Fraser also highly rated.
