Stating the fax
Article Abstract:
The reliability of faxes is one reason why they are the world's second most popular form of communication after telephones. However, the growing popularity of PC connectivity appears to indicate changes in the way faxes are viewed by users. The mature market is growing mainly through replacement sales. The main types of faxes are plain-paper and thermal, with the plain-paper market increasing and sales of thermal units falling. This trend is set to continue and plain-paper fax shipments are expected to reach 533,850 units by 2002, against thermal paper sales of 217,140 units.

Running a fax
Article Abstract:
Points to consider when buy a fax machine should include running costs. Faxes are billed in the same way as telephone calls and reduced transmission times could cut costs. The fax rate depends on a modem which converts data into an analogue form for transmission and translates received faxes into a digital form for printing out. Modem speeds are measured in bits per second (bps), with business fax equipment tending to transmit a standard 14,400 bps. Suggestions for saving running costs are further discussed.

Fax on dumping
Article Abstract:
Fax machine manufacturers believe that high European Union import duties on lightweight fax machines will seriously affect the market and push up retail prices. Some believe that the budget machines sector will cease to exist because of anti-dumping duties. Others feel that the European Commission has not carefully considered the impact imposed duties will have on the market.
