That 2000 thing
Article Abstract:
More than 40,000 British firms will experience serious technical problems due to the millennium bug. Computer systems with date formats that do not cater for a century change are bound to function erroneously. Every computer system should be audited to assess how badly the new millennium date will impact business automation. Date format amendments are straightforward but labour-intensive and therefore expensive to complete. Businesses should address the problem with urgency.

On the beach
Article Abstract:
There are still a number of polluted beaches in Britain, says the Consumers' Association, despite the fact that many beaches have improved in recent years. Nearly 90% of British beaches are clean enough to conform to the European Union's standards, but 51 remain dirty and unhealthy. Ten clean and ten dirty beaches are listed. A number of the worst beaches are found in the north-west of England, where standards have dropped since 1994.
