Savings can be made by switching from British Telecom to either Mercury Telecommunications PLC or cable TV telephone services under certain circumstances. Some 80% of UK telephone users are now able to subscribe to Mercury, where savings can be made if the subscriber is mainly an economy period user. Cable telephone is only available in limited areas of the UK, and savings vary between cable companies. Special rates and services targeted at reducing telephone bills are discussed.

Cause for complaint

Article Abstract:

Handling of customer complaints by service companies like the Post Office, British Telecom, British Rail, British Gas, the electricity and water companies, needs to be improved. The Post Office handles complaints better than British Gas, British Telecom and British Rail, and the latter two handle complaints particularly badly. The Citizen's Charters for various service companies are outlined and suggestions are given for addressing complaints.
