Amphibole composition in tonalite as a function of pressure: an experimental calibration of the Al-in-hornblende barometer
Article Abstract:
The aluminum composition of hornblende can act as a barometer since the total aluminum in hornblende correlates with the pressure of crystallization when the intrusion infiltrated the crust. The aluminum content of tonalite can be calculated using the formula derived from the calibration of the hornblende barometer at pressures ranging from 2.5 to 13 kilobars. The correlation coefficient of the calibration procedure was computed at 0.99. Further, the calibration was consistent with empirical field standardization and a previously reported study.

Iron in plagioclase as a monitor of the differentiation of the Skaergaard intrusion: a discussion of Christian Tegner (Contrib Mineral Petrol 128: 45-51)
Article Abstract:
Two additional important factors were found in relation to the study by Christian Tegner on the iron content in plagioclases from the Upper Zone of the Skaergaard Intrusion. The trend of increasing iron contents was found in the plagioclases from the Layered Series and is slightly higher than that of the Marginal Border Series, while a trend of declining iron contents was found in the Upper Border Series. The differences in iron contents can be attributed to the immiscible separation of a second liquid in these units.
