Carbonate-periplatform sedimentation by density flows: a mechanism for rapid off-bank and vertical transport of shallow-water fines: comment and reply
Article Abstract:
The cold-condition density flows generated in the Florida and Bahamas carbonate platforms play an important role in the sediment dynamics of the platforms. Some observers believe that these density flows use hemipelagic means in transporting the periflatform sediments on the Bahamian slopes while others maintain that density cascading is significant in the transport of mud from the Bahama and Florida platforms. Nevertheless, observers maintain that additional data is needed to better understand the significance of density flows.

"Varve" counting vs. tephrochronology and 137Cs and 210Pb dating: a comparative test at Skilak Lake, Alaska: comment and reply
Article Abstract:
Criticisms for and against the use of the tephrochronology dating method to calculate the sedimentation rate for Skilak Lake laminae are discussed. Critics claim that the use of the dating method is ambiguous and that the theory that the laminae are periodic layering over approximately 10-year intervals does not account for correlations with climate and solar activity. Proponents presented proof to support the low-valued sedimentation rate obtained from the method.
