Chromian spinels
Article Abstract:
The SPINMELT program, based on empirically calibrated equations for spinel-melt equilibrium, is used for computer simulations of the chromian spinels composition. The accuracy of the chromite crystallization temperatures in mafic melts, estimated by the empirical model, is plus or minus 10 degree Celsius and that of spinel composition is 0.5-2 mol%. The program is used to analyze the changes in chromium solubility with oxygen fugacity and temperature. The method considers the distribution coefficients, and the exchange equilibrium and formation constants during simulation.

Fe-Ti oxides
Article Abstract:
Two models for calculating Mt and Ilm crystallization temperatures were formulated with the aid of a system of empirically calibrated magnetite-melt and ilmenite-melt equilibrium equations. The models developed enhance the ability of analyzing numerically the effects of temperature and oxygen fugacity on the stability and phase equilibria of Fe-Ti oxides. Such was attained due to the integration of models into the COMAGMAT-3.5 program.

The cumulus and post-cumulus evolution of chrome-spinels in ultrabasic layered intrusions: evidence from the Cuillin Igneous Complex, Isle of Skye, Scotland
Article Abstract:
The compositions of spinels from different environments within ultrabasic rocks of an unmetamorphosed anorogenic layered intrusion are analyzed. Results show that chrome-spinels from Isle of Skye display a wide variety of compositions. Throughout the study, there is clear textural and compositional evidence for the combined roles of various cumulus and post-cumulus processes in the evolution of chrome-spinels.
