Collapse of the Luzon volcanic arc during onset of arc-continent collision: evidence from a Miocene-Pliocene unconformity, Eastern Taiwan
Article Abstract:
A Miocene-Pliocene unconformity in eastern Taiwan sheds light on initial arc-continent collision. The unconformity lies between precollisional Luzon arc volcanic rocks and an overlay of syncollisional Taiwanese sedimentary rocks. It represents late Miocene nondeposition and/or erosion, followed by rapid subsidence or arc platform collapse. This was probably due to crustal loading, as implied by west to east younging of initial subsidence event. The results suggest that arc-continent collision in eastern Taiwan and subsequent basin development have had post-Pliocene secular changes.

Tectonic controls on deposition of Middle Jurassic strata in a retroarc foreland basin, Utah-Idaho trough, western interior, United States
Article Abstract:
Study confirms that the Middle Jurassic Utah-Idaho trough was a retroarc foreland basin which formed east of belt of regional contractile deformation and crustal thickening in western and central Nevada and southeastern California. Collapse of overthickened crust in the Cordilleran orogen may be responsible for the Jurassic extension and normal faulting in northeastern Nevada. This corresponds to a period of slowed subsidence in the Utah-Idaho trough that started at about 157ma. Rapid increase in the rate of subsidence in most cases is suggested.

Collision and extrusion at the Kuril-Japan arc junction
Article Abstract:
Hokkaido, Japan, is one of the most common regions where collision tectonics is occurring at arc-arc junctions and where the lower crust of the Kuril Arc is exposed as a result of collision of the Kuril Arc's fore-arc portion with the Northeast Japan Arc. Thus, a deformation history analysis of the southern tip of central Hokkaido was conducted which specifically focused on the shallow deformation in the Cape Erimo area. The study and its results are discussed.
