Article Abstract:
The suggestion that the Eastern Carpathians magmatic belt is not brought about directly by westward subduction but rather by a reduction in oceanic slab is negated by geological data. One of the four issues raised is the absence of supporting data regarding the presence of the Mesozoic oceanic crust in the Eastern Carpathians. The four issues, in turn, are addressed within the context of the author's interpretation.

Island-arc basalt alkali ratios: constraints from phengite-fluid partitioning experiments
Article Abstract:
Varied alkali ratios seen for island-arc basalts may be explained by the large ion lithophile-fractionation behavior between phengites and fluids. Earlier models for metasomatic mass transfer in subduction zones should be reconsidered in light of this data.

Modeling the behavior of the continental mantle lithosphere during plate convergence
Article Abstract:
There are several deformational modes of the mantle lithosphere. These include symetric plate consumpution, slab breakoff, and asymmetric subduction, and a dripping instability.
