Compositional variation and primary water contents of differentiated interstitial and included glasses in boninites
Article Abstract:
Interstitial and included glasses present in boninites from the mid and South Pacific generally contain low water-free total, low MgO, low total iron, and high water content. Interstitial glasses from the Marianas, Chichi-jima in the Bonin Islands, and New Caledonia are dacitic. Glasses from one sample in Chichi-jima are high-Mg andesitic with nearly 9 wt% MgO. Glasses from the Cape Vogel area are in between dacitic and andesitic. Water content for interstitial glasses ranges from nearly 2 wt% to 7.0 wt%. The included glasses are more differentiated than interstitial glasses due to more crystallizations in smalll inclusions in host crystals.

The temperature dependence of the speciation of water in NaAlSi3O8-KAlSi3O8 melts: an application of fictive temperatures derived from synthetic fluid-inclusions
Article Abstract:
Infrared spectroscopy experiments do not indicate a significant relaxation of water-bearing species along the NaAlSi3O8-KAlSi3O8 join below the glass transition temperature. The temperature causes a minor influence on the melt speciation at the glass transition. Usage of determined absorptivities for H2O and OH for each melt composition quantifies the speciation of water in the quenched glasses. The speciation of water variates with temperature and is insensitive to the K-Na exchange.

The solubility of water in NaAlSi3O8 melts: a re-examination of Ab-H2O phaserelationships and critical behavior at high pressures
Article Abstract:
An analysis of water solubility in melts of the NaAlSi3O8-H2O system is presented.Solubility was examined at high pressure (P) and temperature (T) settings, which were derived from the appearance of quenched products and water concentrations. It is shown that inferred water solubilities in the examined melts increased with increasing P at 1400 degrees Celsius and also with increasing T at 0.5 GPa.
