Contrasting stable isotope behavior between calcite and dolomite marbles, Lone Mountain, Nevada
Article Abstract:
Meteoric fluids interacted with Lone Mountain, Nevada, calcite and dolomite marbles during the Tertiary and decreased the delta oxygen 18 isotope value of calcite and dolomite. The brown and blue luminescent quartz grains from calcite marbles have a delta oxygen 18 isotope value between + 23.9 to + 18.1%, whereas the brown luminescent quartz from red dolomite marbles have delta oxygen 18 isotope between + 2.0 to 9.3%. Partial oxygen isotopic exchange during the Tertiary initiated by an increase in surface area of quartz depleted the oxygen 18 of quartz from dolomite.

Article Abstract:
An analysis describing a textural equilibrium model is presented. The model has been criticized for its initial granite temperature setting. The objection was based on the theory that the granite formation was present before intrusion. However, analysis shows that a best-fit situation can be assumed only if the rock temperature was not greater than 150 degrees celsius and contact at intrusion temperature has not been made for more than 1,000 years.

Article Abstract:
An analysis describing textural equilibration is presented. The process is tested in Ordovician country rocks of the contact aureole of the Tertiary Beinn an Dubhaich granite. Earlier findings present these rocks as unmetamorphosed at the time of intrusion. However, analysis reveals that such rocks experienced the impact of Tertiary bed-parallel extension before granite intrusion.
