Rare earth element mobility during prograde granulite facies metamorphism: significance of fluorine
Article Abstract:
The large amount of minerals containing rare earth elements (REE) and high field strength elements (HFSE) in mafic gneisses is due to the transport of the elements into the gneisses during prograde granulite facies metamorphism. REE-rich minerals, and the related biotite and hornblende minerals contain large amounts of fluorine. This indicates that the the REE and HFSE moved as fluoride complexes. The mafic gneisses in the granulite region of the Quetico subprovince of the Superior Province, Ontario, Canada, have high fluorapatite content and low allanite, monazite and zircon content.

Mineral chemistry and geochemistry of vanadian silicates in the Hemlo gold deposit, Ontario, Canada
Article Abstract:
The principal Hemlo gold deposit vanadium-rich silicates, green mica, phlogopite, pumpellyite, garnet, epidote-group minerals, vesuvianite and titanite, contain vanadium trioxide at 17.6%, 10.1%, 25.7%, 18.5%, 9.1%, 4.3% and 18.5%, respectively. The main sourceof vanadium among the enriched samples is green mica, which occurs in either vanadium or chromium-enriched form. Moreover, the introduction of mafic-ultramafic rocks in the quartz-oligoclase porphyry has provided the source of vanadium and chromium in the green mica schist.

Partitioning of platinum-group elements and Au in the Fe-Ni-Cu-S system: experiments on the fractional crystallization of sulfide melt - reply
Article Abstract:
The compositional zoning of platinum-group elements and Au in magmatic sulphide deposits is independent of fractional crystallization of immiscible sulphide melt. The use of 0.0 Cu content has no effect on the disagreement between the composition of the komatiite sulphide ores and that calculated by bulk composition of related massive ores. The phase relations and metal partitioning in systems of sulphide/silicate/alloy do not agree with the major element composition and precious metal geochemistry of komatiite-hosted sulphides.
