Secondary siderite-oxide-sulphide and carbonate-andalusite assemblages in cordierite granulites from Sri Lanka: post-granulite facies fluid evolution during uplift
Article Abstract:
A group of uncommon secondary carbonate-silicate-oxide-sulphide assemblages were produced due to a reaction between CO(sub2)-rich fluids and some pelitic rocks of the Wanni and Highland Complexes of Sri Lanka. Proof that CO(sub2) is derived from graphite is found in the Highland Complex where partial reaction between primary graphite and silicates caused the formation of secondary siderite assemblages. These rocks are evidence that CO(sub2) -rich fluids need not build up during the height of granulite metamorphism. Rather, they may be an unavoidable result of continuous uplift along a clockwise P-T-t path.

Divariant and trivariant reaction line slopes in FMAS and CFMAS: theory and applications
Article Abstract:
A theoretical survey of X(sub Mg) isopleth slopes of divariant reactions in FMAS/CFMAS uses the Gibbs' method to generate an equation that may be usefully applied to any divariant assemblage. The equation not only shows a P-T path with a steep prograde segment for Sri Lankan granulites, but also reveals the prominent role of a retrograde path in explaining simultaneous garnet breakdown/growth in metabasites/charnockites, respectively. The thermodynamic influence of additional components, such as albite, in solid solutions creates large variations in isopleth and reaction line slopes.
