Source characteristics of the basement rocks from the Sulu and Celebes Basins (Western Pacific): chemical and isotopic evidence
Article Abstract:
The Sulu and Celebes Basins of Western Pacific have their source in depleted asthenospheric mantle source. The source isotopic properties are consistent with those of the depleted Indian Ocean mid-ocean region basalt source. Isotopic analysis of basalts show that Sulu developed 18 Ma ago as a backarc basin correlated with submerged Cagayan Ridge Arc, whereas the Celebes Basin originated nearly 43 Ma ago during plate reorganization. The variations between 87Sr/86Sr and 143Nd/144Nd show that both the basins exhibit a late middle Miocene phase and an onset of volcanic activity on neighbouring arcs.

U-Pb geochronology of the Grenville Orogen of Ontario and New York: constraints on ancient crustal tectonics
Article Abstract:
The proterozoic Grenville Orogen of South Ontario and New York is divided into regions by shear zones that occur lithologically, structurally and geophysically. The uranium-lead ages were determined on the metamorphical and igneous spheres from calc-silicate gneisses, granitoids, marbles, amphibolites, pegmalites and skarns to restrict metamorphism timing. The duration for mineral growth and the metamorphism and cooling of the South Grenville Orogen division were checked by the Uranium-lead ages. Each division of the Grenville Orogen exhibits different thermal and tectonic history.
