The generation of sodic granite magmas, western Palmer Land, Antarctic Peninsula
Article Abstract:
Researchers have investigated the genesis of subduction-related granites s.l. along the south-western margin of the Antarctic Peninsula in western Palmer Land. It was found that these Masozoic to Cainozoic granites have chemical compositions which bear similarities to those of Archean tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite (TTG) suites, experimental partial metals of basaltic material and Phanerozoic slab-melts (adakites). It was concluded that subduction generated basaltic magmas played a role in crustal thickening by underplating in western Palmer Land.

Upper Proterozoic rift-related rocks in the Pensacola Mountains, Antarctica: precursors to supercontinent breakup?
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine upper Proterozoic or Precambrian rift-related rocks in the Pensacola Mountains of Antarctica. Sedimentalogical and structural findings show that these upper clastic sedimentary rocks formed in an intracontinental rift setting. The rocks are part of the Patuxent Formation whose turbidities belong to a large depositional system generated by a continental source.

The Auriga Nunataks shear zone: Mesozoic transfer faulting and arc deformation in northwest Palmer Land, Antarctica
Article Abstract:
New structural and geo-chronological data from the Auriga Nunataks shear zone provides further understanding of structural events in the Antarctic Peninsula. The shear zone transferred motion between arc-parallel compressional and extensional structural elements, and seems to have acted like a leaky transform fault in times of regional extension.
