A sea of change
Article Abstract:
Container terminals of the world are in a changing business climate and expanding or upgrading rapidly. The companies that have operated the terminals have been run by conglomerates and groups with little connection to the management of the container-shipping world. The shipping lines find it is very important to have operational rights at the docks, so they are getting more involved in procedures at terminals, sometimes owning them, sometimes investing capital or arranging long-term leases. In Asia, Japan has been in front in the process of change.
