A successful accident: recollections and speculations about the CEA
Article Abstract:
The accidental formation of the Council of Economic Advisers (CEA) following the adoption of the 1946 Employment Act, fails to detract from its successful history as an economic advisory body. The three member Council provided substance to the employment bill after the removal of the Keynesian language. Despite some controversial macroeconomic decisions, the CEA proposed some major economic policy packages such as the Kennedy-Johnson tax cut. While the CEA's past acts impelled the current fiscal deficit and culture of poverty, it has given the government good economic advice in the recent years.

The future information infrastructure in economics
Article Abstract:
The advent of computers has revolutionized the information access of economists. Business journals have become easier to obtain and disseminate, hence facilitating the writing of research papers. The cost of electronic on-line distribution of business information is also considerably lower than the expense of acquiring hard copies. Delivering lectures through the Internet is another area of improvement. Furthermore, the volume of research papers is expected to increase with the elimination of the cumbersome requirements of publishing. The quality of these papers, however, is an issue of concern.
