Aid and trade relationships in East Asia
Article Abstract:
The relationship between economic aid and trade between East Asia and donor countries, Japan and Australia has been examined. Economic aid is not given for altruistic reasons but is motivated by a desire to obtain commercial and political gains. The motives influence the form of aid to be given and the countries to which they would be given. Results of the study indicate aid and trade flows have played significant roles in promoting economic dynamism in East Asia. Poorer countries are being deprived of aid which is given to countries with stronger economic performance. As such, a lot of economic aid goes to countries that do not need it.

East Asian economic performance: miracle or just a pleasant surprise?
Article Abstract:
Economic factors based on endogenous economic theory such as physical and human capital accumulation along with technology-led productivity growth may be the reasons behind the success of the eight high performing Asian economies (HPAEs). This economic phenomenon may be deemed a miracle if government success is impossible. It could also be described as a pleasant surprise if the combination of strong institutions, political will and a concept of social contract contributed to growth with equity.

The mixing of aid and trade policies
Article Abstract:
The practice of linking trade and aid policies, as carried out by donor countries, weakens the economic benefits received by least developed countries and is no guarantee of a rise in exports for the donor country. The results were taken from a study of how aid policy is formulated with respect to donor's trade goals, the impact of tied aid on recipient-interests. The analysis also differentiated between mixed credit financing and tied aid policy.
