Altering the product life cycle of consumer durables: The case of minivans

Article Abstract:

A product life cycle model based on minivan sales data is used to determine the importance of advertising and other marketing strategies in prolonging the product life cycle of durable goods. These strategies are shown to be effective in increasing initial sales and enhances the possibility of continuous patronage from remaining market base. The model also show that product variations and redesigning also extend the life cycle of existing durable products in the market.
