Article Abstract:
Governmental constraints on the financial sector was shown to be the limiting factor that determines the average productivity of capital in five South East Asian economies. This factor, coupled with market imperfections and asymmetric information, can result in market failure in the extreme or a loss of confidence in the country's financial infrastructure. The governmental constraints take the form of control in the interest rate, credit programs and reserve and liquidity requirements.
