Beyond transparency: an analysis of the trade policy review of the European Union
Article Abstract:
The fourth Trade Policy Review (TPR) of the European Union which was concluded by the World Trade Organization in 1997 is examined. The TPR review highlights primarily developments on trade policy. Specifically, the review analyzes the following: economic environment, developments in trade policies, trade policy by instruments, trade policy by sectors and prospects. The TRP provides important information on policy-related developments in some of the world's premier trading groups. It has advanced movements towards increasing the transparency of the EU's trade policies.

Why liberalisation needs centralisation: subsidiarity and EU telecoms
Article Abstract:
European Union (EU) members are increasingly being pressured to liberalize their telecommunication markets. For EU members, the challenge lies in striking a balance between market liberalization and regulations that will promote fair competition. Although subsidiarity can bring about liberalization within the context of a properly functioning market, it can also prove disadvantageous when vaguely or improperly applied.
