Champagne and other sparkling wine
Article Abstract:
The UK sparkling wine market is predicted to grow from 945 million pounds sterling in 1998 to 1,196 million pounds sterling by the year 2002. The champagne market is forecast to grow from 730 million pounds sterling in 1998 to 949 million pounds sterling by 2002. Sales will be driven by the celebrations focusing on the millennium and an increase in prices which many consumers are prepared to pay when purchasing authentic champagne. Over 17 million litres of champagne are expected to be consumed in the UK during 1998.

Fortified wine
Article Abstract:
Overall volume sales of fortified wine continue to fall, but at a slower rate, with a modest rise expected in 1998. Port sales have fared better than the remainder of the market, but only account for 15% of total fortified wine sales. The market is dominated by major multinationals, although smaller specialist companies are a major force. Advertising expenditure has fallen, representing only 0.5% of the 1997 total market value.
