Condition monitoring: careful planning reaps rewards
Article Abstract:
With the Internet, Asia is competitive with Europe in condition-monitoring technology. Condition monitoring has become an international phenomenon. Installation must be done correctly to make the system bring extra profit. With a large, complex system, a trained computer engineer may be needed, adding to cost. A range of sensors is desirable for diagnosis of applications at different speeds in a plant. A small plant might need only periodic checking with hand-held devices; local wage scales and available skilled staff should be considered. For essential public services plants, continuous monitoring is required.
