Contractual union-firm agreements and the theory of the firm under certainty
Article Abstract:
The theory of the firm when the labor union and management negotiate under uncertainty is analyzed. This assumption of union-bargaining in the company labor market expands Booth's (1991) simple uncertainty model, which merges the rigid ex post price and additive uncertainty assumptions. The results show that, when the union has greater influence over wage than employment, the risk-averse organization will be more productive, while the risk-loving firm will be less productive.

Transaction costs, corporate hierarchies, and the theory of franchising
Article Abstract:
Organizational efficiency among franchising organizations may be enhanced through the adoption of a promotion-based employment system. Results revealed that a promotion based system does not only motivate lower level managerial employees, but help owners get rid of contracting problems, as well. However, in corporate settings where such a scheme is impossible to implement, a dual system of promotion-based and pay-for-performance type of contract is advised.

The effects of union owned shares on the outcome of wage bargaining
Article Abstract:
Employee share ownership cannot simultaneously benefit all union members and external owners. The study shows that an egalitarian share arrangement will increase employment and thus reduce income for employees overall while increasing it for owners. Inegalitarian arrangements, in which some union members do not receive stock, could be viable.
