Decomposition of productivity and unit costs
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the slowdown in productivity that occurred in the early 1970s and to determine whether the pace of technological progress has speeded up in the 1990s. Results indicated that mismeasurement misrepresented figures for the non-farm business sector. These data should not be the focus of aggregate productivity and inflation analysis. Findings also showed that the nonfinancial corporate sector is a better measure and more analytically appropriate aggregate for inflation and productivity analysis.
