Doing business in Turkmenistan: a tax primer for foreign investors
Article Abstract:
Foreign companies wishing to open business enterprises in Turkmenistan have to enlist with the State Chief Tax Inspectorate (SCTI) before operations. These foreign firms are subject to a value-added tax of 20% paid either every 10 days, monthly or quarterly depending on the amount. An annual profit tax of 25% is also imposed on foreign investors engaged in any commercial or production activity in the country. However, those that have businesses in the nation's "free economic zones" are excluded from paying profit taxes for the first 3 years of earnings.
