Economic reforms and agricultural development in Myanmar
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to examine the effect of economic reforms on the agricultural development in Myanmar. Market-oriented policy reform measures that had a major positive influence on the agricultural sector were the lifting of restrictions on private sector participation in trade, the regularization of border trade and the decontrol of prices of major agricultural products. These measures have led to the recovery of the agricultural sector with commendable growth rates between 1993 and 1995 which is up to the government to sustain.

Why has Myanmar not developed like East Asia?
Article Abstract:
Myanmar has failed to make progress in economic development, and this is linked to the failure to adopt a number of measures that would help promote growth. Domestic savings have not been encouraged, and Myanmar has failed to take advantage of benefits to be gained from international trade through usage of comparative advantages. Human resource development has also been negelected, and this includes entrepreneurship which has been a key factor elsewhere in East Asia.

Social sector development in Myanmar: The role of the state
Article Abstract:
The human resource development (HRD) status if Myanmar is discussed in the context of ASEAN and East Asia Pacific. The attempts by the government to promote the health sector and its role in educational sector are also examined. Policy formulation has been mostly ad hoc and this is particularly apparent in the educational sector where there is a lack of continuity in policy. Current policy with regard to the social sector seems to emphasize the role of the state.
