Egypt unveils five-year plan to attack pollution problems

The Egyptian government has established a five-year environmental action program to solve Egypt's solid waste, air and water pollution problems. The program will prioritize the preparation of feasibility studies for proposed development plans and an appeal for firms to espouse ISO 14000 environmental standards certification. The country produces a total of roughly 30,000 tons of solid waste daily, with 20,000 tons coming from the cities.

Environmental law in Oman: key areas of legislation
Article Abstract:
Oman's Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Environment (MRME) is drafting a new environment law which is currently a mix of royal decrees and ministerial decisions. At present, the Royal Decree No. 10/82 is the principal law which serves as basis for all other environmental legislation. The MRME is expected to consolidate existing laws, simplify compliance requirements and develop procedures that will strengthen enforcement.
