Employment and the introduction of a minimum wage in Britain
Article Abstract:
The implementation of a minimum wage will have minimal effects on employment in Britain. Data from British Household Panel Survey and Labour Force Survey indicates that minimum wage implementation will not reduce the concentration of workers from the lower income households in low paying jobs. However, the implementation of an appropriate minimum wage could reduce the income inequality between genders and improve the well being of a substantial number of british workers.

Taking care of business: executive compensation in the United Kingdom
Article Abstract:
The salaries and other income earned by executives in UK corporations are analyzed in relation to compensation-setting strategies and variables affecting existing salaries. In the UK, as elsewhere, the compensation of executives is not directly related to the profitability and stock market performance of the companies they work for. Policy suggestions include more adequate reporting of compensation in company accounts to aid remuneration setting.

Intergenerational mobility in Britain
Article Abstract:
The scope of intergenerational mobility in the UK is restricted to educational attainment and earnings. The log-linear regression model reveals intergenerational parameter beta estimates of 0.45 to 0.70 for females, and 0.40 to 0.60 for males. Quartile transition matrices reveal an asymmetry in which downward mobility from the top of the distribution is less probable than upward mobility from the base.
