Estimating the demand for housing, land, and neighbourhood characteristics
Article Abstract:
The housing demand for two UK cities, namely, Berkshire and Darlington, were quantified using spatially lagged parameters to determine the effects of land regulation. The hedonic price of structure properties, which were obtained from the Box-Cox form hedonic price function, were then applied to compute for an Almost Ideal Demand System for the two cities studied. Compared to values derived for North American cities, the income elasticities were relatively higher.

Pooled estimators vs. their heterogeneous counterparts in the context of dynamic demand for gasoline
Article Abstract:
The performance of homogeneous and heterogeneous parameter estimators is compared by applying them to a common data set, gasoline consumption and the dynamic demand specification. Results showed that heterogeneous models for individual countries offer inferior total forecast performance since these models tend to produce less plausible estimates. This confirms the value of panel data sets and justifies the importance given to homogeneous pooled estimators.

Non-linearities in electricity demand and temperature: parametric vs. non-parametric methods
Article Abstract:
The research studies the influence of outside air temperature on residential demand for space heating energy. The study examines the non-linearities using parametric and non-parametric methods, based on high-frequency longitudinal data collected from sampled U.K. households. The findings support significant non-linearities across the range of temperatures and hold significance for empirical and theoretical studies of energy demand.
