Examining legislative challenges to central bank autonomy: macroeconomic and agency-costs models
Article Abstract:
The paper examines the determinants of the legislative threats from the US Congress to the Federal Reserve prerogatives of budgetary authority, autonomy and secrecy. The study of two sets of correlates of Federal ReserveEs management of the macro economy, and its budget building activity are modeled. The study concludes that the agency costs/political model is superior to macroeconomic model in explaining variations in legislative threats from US Congress over time.

A study on the regulatory compliance by business enterprises is presented. Analysis of voluntary compliance vis-a-vis regulatory compliance is also presented. The effect of the costs on compliance is also examined.
