Exchange rate policy and market power: a general equilibrium analysis for Singapore
Article Abstract:
It is possible to use a computable general equilibrium (CGE) model of the Johansen type to assess the impact of different economic policy issues in Singapore. This model is particularly useful when considering how the economy responds to unexpected developments such as currency appreciation. It can be established that market power may have a substantial impact on Singapore's export performance. The current exchange rate policy seems to have made it possible to maintain domestic price stability by boosting the value of the currency without bringing Singapore's external competitiveness into danger.

Workforce productivity enhancement and technological upgrading in Singapore
Article Abstract:
Boosting productivity is set to become a very significant issue as Singapore seeks to boost economic growth and retain its competitive advantage. It is likely that emphasis will increasingly be placed on workforce quality and educational upgrading as Singapore adapts to substantial changes in the world economy. It must be made easier to upgrade and redeploy the workforce, and extensive use must be made of high technology, especially information technology.
