Federal control over education: crisis, deception, and institutional change
Article Abstract:
Political transaction-cost manipulation was instrumental in establishing a federal hold on the US education system. Passage of the National Defense Education Act of 1958 and the Elementary Education Act of 1965 did not only extend government's authority to the academic curricula, but also affected major institution-reinforcing ideological changes. It only proved the government's policy inefficiency in public education and imposed increases in organisational costs.

Competition between private and public schools, vouchers, and peer-group effects
Article Abstract:
A model is developed to analyze the interaction between the public and private school sectors and the impact of educational vouchers. The model assumes that higher ability increases educational achievement and that rising household incomes increase the demand for educational achievement. Results show a negative correlation between income and ability in private schools. Low-income, high ability students also gain the most from vouchers.
