Feet of Clay
Article Abstract:
Engineers are concentrating on controlling the consequences of structures built on clay. Foundations built on clay either sink or bulge upwards. It is less costly to construct a building that can withstand movement than to have a rigid foundation. The concept is to place the foundation on settlement reducing piles. The countries of Jordan and Great Britain have been facing the consequences of constructing on top of clay.

Airlines Find Market Forces Still Work at 30,000 Feet
Article Abstract:
The 1983 meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) evolved the concept of workable competition to recover profits on failing international routes. The smaller airlines hope for a protective system. However, only open competition will work. Graphs are included.
