Gender differences in salary and promotion in the humanities
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze gender differences in salaries and promotion probabilities. Data on academic labor markets from the Survey of Doctorate Recipients were utilized to carry out the analysis. The relationship between the promotion to tenure in academia and the salary gap was also examined. Results indicated differences in employment outcomes by gender. Findings also showed substantial gender differences in promotion to tenure even after controlling for productivity, demographic characteristics and primary work activity.
