Health and schooling investments in Africa
Article Abstract:
Investments in education and health can increase human capital and foster economic growth. African infant survival rates declined between 1960 and 1985, and school enrolment levels are low in Africa. There may be too much emphasis on higher education in Africa, and there is a need for more investment in primary and secondary education. Low health levels appear to be the most significant constraint to growth in terms of human capital. The impact of labor mobility, and benefits of labor migration should also be analyzed further.

China's lagging poor areas
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze geographical differences in levels of living in China. Household panel data and geographic data were examined to carry out the analysis. The effectiveness of poor-programs in reaching out to poor areas was also discussed. Results indicated that the rural poor are exposed to sizable income risk and that the uninsured risk results into considerable transient poverty.
