Hedge funds and the collapse of Long-Term Captal Management
Article Abstract:
Long-Term Capital Management was a hedge fund that attracted publicity when it collapsed in fall 1998. The Federal Reserve intervened, and there was concern about the impact of the collapse on the financial system as a whole. This leads to questions about the role of hedge funds and dangers that could arise if several collapsed. Problems have arisen from investors in hedge funds and those who trade in them, who have not sought sufficient disclosure. There should be a stronger focus on hazards that could affect the financial system as a whole, and this means a greater focus on risk management.

Divergence, big time
Article Abstract:
Divergence of economic growth rates is observed among developing countries in the period since 1870. Some of these countries showed remarkable economic progress while others manifested either stagnation or steep economic decline. However, among developed countries such as the USA, the UK and Japan, convergence of economic growth rates is seen. The more advanced countries in this group of developed nations showed relatively slower economic growth while rapid development characterized those in the lower ranks. Appropriate growth policy, therefore, will differ among these countries.
