High tech's top 30

Northern Telecom tops Alberta's list of 30 top high tech companies. Numbering more than 300, high tech companies produce $1 billion in sales and employ 10,000. Table includes company name, location, start up date, number of employees, other offices, major shareholders, 1984 sales, international sales, and major product or service.

Warring for the convention trade; luring the meetings is tough but the money is good
Article Abstract:
Conventions in Alberta generated $160 million in direct revenues, and $388 in indirect revenues in 1984. Alberta's convention centers compete with 14 in Canada, and more than 235 in the U.S. Alberta has the added disadvantage of being unknown, so that site promotion is essential.
