Article Abstract:
The state of monetary policy practice in the 1970s and the changes in Federal Reserve policy are discussed to illustrate how a working consensus on the core principles of monetary policy was achieved by the late 1990s. The worldwide consensus was produced from the hard practical lessons learned from diverse national experiences and provides a common ground for academics and central bankers to work on improving monetary policy.
