Import competition, government subsidies, and trade with developing countries
Article Abstract:
Government support to import-threatened industries seems to hinder ythe growth of bilateral trade between developed and developing countries. This is indicated by a study of the subsidy and other adjustment programs implemented by major Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development countries in the textile, clothing and footwear sectors. Government subsidies revitalize the import-threatened industries through sustained investments in capital equipmnet, thus fostering permanent hindrances to bilateral trade.

The evolution and goals of lending to developing countries by the Bank for International Settlements
Article Abstract:
The Bank for International Settlements took a new role in the 1980s when it began providing short-term liquidity to developing countries. Its aim was to help the countries while they negotiated for longer-term support from the IMF and the World Bank. The emergency financial facilities attracted several borrowers in the 1980s, but requests have since lessened in the 1990s.

This work argues that neoclassical theories of firms have been superceded by 'advanced research'
