Issues in measuring and modelling poverty
Article Abstract:
Sample surveys of household living conditions have long been employed for poverty studies. Poverty measures derived from these data are increasingly depended on in policy debates regarding alleviation of poverty. However, poverty measurement and modelling have been plagued by problems, the most contentious issues being the welfare indicator, the poverty line and the poverty measure. These conceptual and empirical problems can be dealt with by using supplementary measures aimed at tracking factors missing in poverty measures.

Growth and size of firms
Article Abstract:
The relationship between firm size and growth is examined. For the study, a dataset comprised of 87,000 independent British companies is used. A Galton-Markov model of regression towards the mean reveals that growth is negatively related to initial size. When the sample is divided by size group, the regression towards the mean only happens for the smallest firms. Basically, no relationship exists between growth and size for larger firms.

Poverty and household size
Article Abstract:
Large families are generally believed to be poorer in developing countries. However, the basis for this view is questionable. Strong evidence of a negative correlation between size and consumption per person is not convincing given the scope for size economies in consumption. The correlation between poverty and size disappears for the case of Pakistan when the size elasticity of the cost of living is 0.6.
