Economic development has become complicated and the number of prospects has become smaller. Marketing techniques of the private sector must be examined closely. Successful economic development teams would be characterized by their use of marketing planning and their aggressive application of strategies. New prospects must be identified and aggressively sought after.

Article Abstract:
The economic transition of Russia from a planned to a market economy has not been very encouraging. However, its third largest city, Nizhny Novgorod, has been successful. Nizhny stands to become the leader in privatization and social reform if Russia follows Nizhny's economic strategies. The economic development strategy formulated by Grigori Yavlinsky is presented.
