Labor market policies and unemployment in the Czech Republic
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the influence of active labor market policies and the unemployment compensation system on the duration of unemployment in different groups in the Czech Republic. Hazard functions were determined with novel microeconomic data to carry out the analysis. Results indicated that the unemployment compensation system and the active labor market policies increased the social acceptability of a painful economic transition.

Is women's human capital valued more by markets than by planners?
Article Abstract:
Using the data from Czech Republic, a comparative analysis of returns to education of women during various stages of transition from communist economies to market economies is presented. The returns to education of women in state versus privately owned firms are also compared. It is noted that there is no difference in wage-profiles of men and women during the period.
