Maintenance and repair expenditures: determinants and tradeoffs with new capital goods
Article Abstract:
Traditionally new capital investment has been the focus of economic analysis, even as expenditures are ignored for existing stock. New and broader theories of replacement emphasized the importance of both maintenance and utilization rates. A study of survey data of Canadian manufacturing industries reporting annual maintenance/repair expenditures for the period 1991-2000 reveals that cost of capital also has a significant effect on maintenance/repair decisions.
