Public policy and market power in the rayon industry
Article Abstract:
The result of the investigation of the the effects of the National Industrial Recovery Act (NIRA) and the Robinson-Patman Act on the market power of the rayon industry in the 1930s shows that NIRA increased market power of the rayon industry while the Robinson-Patman Act did not have a prominent effect on market power. At the same time, market power seems to have steadily declined during the 1930s. The model measured market power from difference between price and marginal cost.
