Marshall and his correspondence
Article Abstract:
John Whitaker's 'The Correspondence of Alfred Marshall, Economist' and Peter Groenewegen's 'Official Papers of Alfred Marshall. A Supplement' are two books that give interesting revelations on the life of Alfred Marshall, an economist. In Whitaker's book, Marshall is described as complex and fascinating whose writings made enormous contributions to economics. Groenewegen's work, meanwhile, sufficiently supplemented Whitaker's work in an approach different from past peer-appraisal literature.

Unions and profitability over the 1980s: some evidence on union-firm bargaining in the United Kingdom
Article Abstract:
An analysis of the industrial productivity of unionized and non-unionized businesses in the United Kingdom during the 1980s reveals that unions do have a negative effect on profitability. The study takes into consideration the union legislation, business cycles and competition environment of the 1980s in calculating the data. Finally, the data concludes that the degree of impact that unions have on businesses have been sharply reduced towards the end of the period.
