Into the hands of a few
Article Abstract:
The changes that are happening in the US livestock industry has resulted in similar changes in the marketing strategies of the feed manufacturers. The recent consolidation among the nation's farms has necessitated a more personal approach to consumer relations. Animal input suppliers, who are now offering technical training for farm personnel as well as more value- added services, are now positioning themselves as partners in the profitable production of food products.

Article Abstract:
Our Family Farms, a western Massachusetts-based cooperative of eight small dairy operators, has made the idea of sustainable marketing work. The group, which released its first artificial hormone-free milk in 1997, has benefited from a demand for organic milk that has been produced in an environmentally sustainable manner. Our Family Farms, which was began by six families with an investment of $1,000 each, makes sure that its sustainable farming practices are a major part of its marketing efforts.
