Who gets on the AEA program?
Article Abstract:
The American Economic Association (AEA) has been long dominated by mainstream economists affiliated with few universities. Whether the situation has changed or not depends on what one sees as the 'AEA Program.' The large share of a small number of universities in the AEA program and the 'Papers and Proceedings' has reduced. How the AEA program is started, its description, its relation to the 'Papers and Proceedings,' distinction from the Allied Social Science Associations program and the tenor of the institutional affiliation of the participants and authors of papers can help understand the overall progress made by the (AEA).

Who is a member of the AEA?
Article Abstract:
The American Economic Assn's (AEA) aggregate membership has been characterized by long periods of stagnant growth with occasional bursts of rapid growth. The AEA's stagnant membership can be attributed to the emergence of various regional economic associations and economics-related journals. Membership in the AEA is influenced by the number of professional economists and the percentage of this group who join the association. Majority of the members come from the academic ranks followed by those from the government.
