Article Abstract:
Three tables pertaining to mortgages, mortgage-debt and mortgage-backed securities are presented. The first indicates trading of new and existing residential mortgage loans between 1985 and the 1st qtr. of 1996. The second shows securitized mortgage debt outstanding for one-family and four-family housing, and multifamily housing for 1980 and 2nd qtr. of 1996. Finally, the third table presents data on multiclass mortgage securities.

According to the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corp, which forecasts mortgage rates to remain volatile but low, such expectations may take some time to be realized as the government tries to curb its spending. In any case, any economic upswing will be mirrored in the housingand mortgage markets.
