Order without equilibrium: a critical realist interpretation of Hayek's notion of spontaneous order
Article Abstract:
Article discusses Hayek's notion of spontaneous order and shows that one can abandon equilibrium without falling into analytical anarchy. Hayek rejects equilibrium and instead adopts the transformational principle of order: this alternative principle presupposes an ontology of critical realism instead of the empirical realism on which mainstream economic thought is based.
